Kettering is pleased to announce that journalist David Holwerk will join the foundation staff as director of communications in June. Holwerk, currently the president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers and editorial page editor of The Sacramento Bee, is an award-winning journalist who brings more than 30 years of journalistic experience to his new position with the Kettering Foundation. “I’m excited by this opportunity,” Holwerk said. “The foundation’s research into what makes democracy work is more important than ever given the turbulent times that citizens face, and I look forward to helping Kettering tell the story of its work.” Kettering President David Mathews said, “David Holwerk will be instrumental in taking the results from citizen-based research to a broader audience. We are delighted that he is joining us.” Holwerk, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, has also held editing positions at the Lexington (KY) Herald-Leader and the Duluth (MN) News Tribune. Journalists under his supervision have won numerous national awards, including two Pulitzer Prizes.
