Alex Lovit is a program officer at the Kettering Foundation. With a background in history, Alex contributes to Kettering’s series of issue guides on historic decisions and other historical research for the foundation. He also serves as coeditor of Higher Education Exchange.
Lovit studies the historical development of democratic institutions, norms, and cultures, especially in the history of the United States. He is also interested in how historical narratives inform citizens’ understanding of their own role in democracy. He has published in the Journal of Public Deliberation, The Ultimate History Project, and in Kettering’s Higher Education Exchange.
Lovit received his BA from Amherst College and holds a PhD in history from the University of Michigan, with a focus on 19th century political history.
