Daria Smirnova is an international resident researcher at the Kettering Foundation.
Smirnova is an activist in the field of civic education of youth in Russia, and she has initiated and led a range of social projects in this sphere. Her research interests include cultural memory, politics of memory, perception of a totalitarian past, and civic education.
While studying for her degrees, Smirnova worked as a teaching assistant for courses in political anthropology and politics and religion. She was an intern in the Sociology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and also organized and led the first Student Government on Political Science Faculty at her home university.
She holds a BA and an MA in public policy from the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was the recipient of the Saint Petersburg city scholarship (2012-2013) and the Potanin Foundation scholarship (2015-2016) for research and social activity.
