Li Jiaju

Li Jiaju is a CASS fellow at the foundation. Li joins Kettering from the Institute of American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), in Beijing. Previously, Li was a visiting scholar in the Department of Anthropology at Tulane University.
Li earned a PhD in anthropology at Peking University in 2018. His dissertation was titled The Production of Public Life: An Ethnography of Afro-American Carnival in New Orleans, US. Li has published articles on the removal of Confederate monuments, carnivals in New Orleans, and the contemporary development of public anthropology.
Li’s research interests include urban anthropology, cultural heritage, urban development, and public policy. While in the United States, he plans to extend his research on urban renewal in the post-financial crisis rust belt.
