Saya Kakim, Graduate Researcher

Saya Kakim is a graduate researcher at the Kettering Foundation. Kakim’s research interests include capacity building for civic discourse and youth leadership development, including deliberative civic education as well as Visual Thinking Strategies, a student-centered art-based pedagogical model.  

Currently, Kakim is a PhD candidate in the leadership communication interdisciplinary doctoral program at Kansas State University. Her doctoral engaged research project focuses on experiential deliberative civic education and its impact on youth development. Kakim has worked closely with the Kansas State Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy and the K-State Extension and Research Kansas 4-H program to learn about youth participation in Common Ground for Action forums. 

Kakim earned a BS in economics at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and an MA in economics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia).
